Then Chris and I were at Doddington from 13-30 and finally got a distant view of the Black-necked Grebe as we were leaving at 16-30. But we did have good views of 2 little owls sunbathing on the dead willow and a common sandpiper over the water.

Doddington was popular this morning: Mike & Andy were there on their regular visit when I arrived; followed by Robbo. Peter arrived later.

The Black-necked Grebe is still present – favouring the water close the drive to the Hall.

Notable other species also there: 40/50 Swift, Kestrel, Mistle Thrush, then skeins of Greylag Geese flew in.
I was also lucky enough to get a couple of quick, distant views of the resident, if shy, Little Owl.
GS Spotted Woodpecker heard but not seen!

Black-necked grebe adult still present at Doddington this morning. Yesterday with only long views I thought it to be a probable juv with pale cheek patches but really close views this morning showed them to be the remains of the yellow cheek feathers. Also the red eye showed well in the sunlight.

A good morning at Doddington today with a black-necked grebe present. Also my first wigeon of the autumn, 2 kingfishers chasing around the water, a little owl in the willow tree started scolding a buzzard that perched in the same tree, red-legged partridge 1, kestrel 1, raven 2 over and finally 3 broods of tufted including one of 11; I think – hard to count when they are feeding and keep popping up like corks!
