THE BIRDS OF SANDBACH FLASHES 1935 to 1999
Society members Andrew Goodwin and Colin Lythgoe have published the book which has become a major addition to ornithological literature in the county.
The book is A5 size with 128 pages, including four pages of maps showing the location of the various flashes, viewpoints and access routes, as well as over 30 illustrations by Tony Broome, the county bird recorder.
The main section of the book is the systematic list which records and summarises all the 225 species noted in the 20th century. There is also a checklist of these species.
Introductory chapters give details on geology, the salt industry, conservation and management, and a detailed chapter on all sites. These ensure that the objectives of the book are fulfilled — i.e.., to record details of the history of the site together with its status, and to provide a baseline for any future ornithological recording. Also to provide information on where to watch and what to expect to see to stimulate interest and enjoyment amongst local birders.
