Congleton sightings: Grey Wagtail and Pied Wagtail on the paddling pool next to Daneside Theatre. Male Goosander on the River Dane between the Aldi roundabout and Congleton park. Dipper from the Rood Hill road bridge.

A low count of birds in the gull roost at Doddington this evening with in the order of 4,000 black-headed; 500 lesser black-backed; 50 herring and 20 common.

A good 400 Lapwings at Doddington this morning as well as Little Egret,9 Goldeneye,9 Wigeon,8 Teal,6 Shoveler,Little Grebes,Sparrowhawk,Mistle Thrush,Nuthatch,Coal Tits,G.S.Woodpecker and 4 Shelduck came in as we were leaving.

A cold but sunny morning at Doddington this morning found 1 little egret and 23 tufted, 16 shoveler, 14 goldeneye, 6 wigeon, 5 pochard, 3 teal – oh and 500+mallard.

SWaBBS on Wybunbury Moss this morning: very quiet in the middle of the Moss following last months felling and recent clearing of low-level vegetation. NE manage the site to minimise moisture uptake by plants & trees. We will have to look elsewhere for local Marsh Tit; last sighting were Jan/Feb this year. The main activity was in the horse paddocks & surrounding fields to the east of the site: – Fieldfare, Redwing & Mistle Thrush all ‘grubbing’ with the corvids & gulls, while Bullfinch, Linnet, Goldfinch & the odd Siskin were in the alders. At one point c35 Lapwing overhead too.

SWaBBS today: sheep grazing on Meremoor Moss. c50 Greylag + 2 Pink-footed Geese also grazing. Other notable birds include Lapwing, Green Sandpiper, Kingfisher, Kestrel, Peregrine (a first for me here), Raven over, Meadow Pipit, Bullfinch & Reed Bunting. At nearby Henbury Lea: Rook, Song Thrush & Linnet

A Great White Egret together with a Little Egret were on the south shoreline at Doddington this morning,they both flew off but only the L Egret was relocated.A flock of around 20 Siskins were the only birds of note at Lea Forge.

Not ideal conditions at Doddington this afternoon but worth the visit when we picked out a Pink-footed Goose that dropped in with 200 Greylags.Also Little Egret,Snipe,Kestrel and our first Brambling of the winter was feeding with Linnets and Chaffinch.

2 Whooper Swans low over Doddington this morning,possibly from the lower pool when the shoot began.Also a surprise Chiffchaff feeding close to the island.Other birds of note were 3 Little Egrets,Snipe,Bullfinch,55 Linnets,Raven,Common Gulls and a Sparrowhawk perched up on our arrival.

SWaBBS on Macon Meadow this morning – a Song Thrush singing ( locally, they start to declare territories in December ). Also nice to see a Greenfinch in a flock of Chaffinches foraging through the leaf fall.

Our second sighting of Little Egrets at Doddington with 2 present this morning.Also an impressive flock of 54 Teal dropped down,Goldeneye were at least 14 including 6 males,a few Wigeon,Pochard and Shovelers also noted.Snipe,Reed Bunting,Meadow Pipit,Mistle Thrush and around 200 Lapwing were the best of the rest.
