At Doddington this morning the hoped for reed warblers gave two males heard and seen in the usual reed bed at Lemon Pool and two skylarks performed well overhead. Other than a group of nine imm mute swans there was little else noteworthy on a very quiet day. We picked up a singing whitethroat at Lea Forge on the way home.

Large numbers of hirundines at Doddington this morning, most low over the water but still good numbers higher up. Impossible to count accurately but a good guess would be around 400 sand martins,10 house martins and five swallows.

A wild and windy morning at Doddington today with white-topped waves on the pool! But well worth the visit as I got good views of a common sandpiper and then a green sandpiper low over the water then on the island. A lot of hirundines fighting the winds as I arrived with probably around 100 sand martins and 10 swallows.
